Bio

Rebecca Ward is the Climate and Sustainability Science Engagement Postdoctoral Scholar. Her work focuses on bridging scientific research and community application in community resilience and climate adaptation. As the director of the Coastal Community Resilience Immersive Training Program, she trains AmeriCorps members to conduct risk and vulnerability assessments with low-capacity coastal communities. She works with local and state governments to develop and implement strategies that span science and policy to better prepare for climate-related hazards, including harmful algal blooms and extreme heat. Prior to this role, Ward was the assistant state climatologist for North Carolina. Her interdisciplinary efforts have also explored learning and decision-making in the context of climate change, including developing the FutureScape serious game and creating standards-aligned weather and climate curricula.
