Gain Real-World Experience
The Climate and Sustainability Academy empowers students to take an active role in shaping resilient, transformative futures through immersive learning, research and leadership experiences. In addition to flagship programs, CaSA offers temporary student employment and internship opportunities that directly support the Academy’s mission.
Our Flagship Programs
- The Sustainable Futures Fellows engages interdisciplinary student teams in a unique 15-week exploration of sustainability challenges. Undergraduate and graduate students imagine, explore and develop sustainable solutions to pressing challenges.
- The Coastal Community Resilience Immersive Training (C-CRIT) program trains six AmeriCorps members annually to serve as Assessment Coordinators, creating asset maps and vulnerability assessments with and for coastal communities. This 10-week program equips interns with technical skills, such as geospatial analysis and GIS, while deepening their understanding of vulnerability, risk, and adaptive capacity.
- The Blue Economy Innovation Program (BEIP) hosts an annual workshop that brings together entrepreneurs, knowledge experts, and NC State undergraduate and graduate students to inspire sustainable solutions for coastal communities and marine ecosystems.

KIETS Climate Leaders Program
The Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science (KIETS) Climate Leaders Program builds partnerships among students, faculty mentors and internship hosts to develop solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change impacts.
SE CASC Global Change Research Fellows
The Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center Global Change Fellows program supports graduate students interested in interdisciplinary research related to climate and global change.
Social Innovation Fellows
Social and Sustainable Innovation and Entrepreneurship Social Innovation Fellows explore issues of ethics and sustainability at the intersection of the social sector and responsible business practice.
